Installing and configuring WML for z/OS (Roadmap)

IBM Watson Machine Learning for z/OS consists of integrated component systems and services that power the web user interface, the administration dashboard, and various APIs. You must install and configure these components as well as required hardware, operating systems, software, and tooling support.

Before you begin

  1. Choose an installation option that best addresses the machine learning needs of your business as described in Choosing an installation option.
  2. Plan system capacity based on your installation option as described in Planning system capacity.
  3. Create required user IDs as described in Creating user IDs and assigning permissions.
Tip: Use the same user ID for all the installation and configuration tasks on z/OS. Unless noted, consider using the multipurpose <mlz_setup_userid> to install and configure z/OS Spark, Anaconda, Jupyter kernel gateway, Apache Toree, scoring service, and Spark-integration service.
  4. Meet network, port, and firewall requirements as described in Configuring networks, ports, and firewall.
  5. Install and configure prerequisite hardware, software, and tooling support as described in Installing prerequisite hardware and software.
  6. Obtain and transfer product installers and installation scripts to the installed systems as described in Obtaining product installers and installation scripts.

Procedure

The installation and configuration of WML for z/OS services involve multiple sequences of tasks that are best performed by people in different roles, each with a unique set of skills and authorities. The roles of z/OS system programmer, Linux on Z and Linux system administrator are required. While the roles of database administrator, security administrator, network administrator, and UNIX shell programmer are optional, their skills and knowledge are much wanted. Depending on the installation option you choose, use the following list of tasks as a roadmap to install and configure WML for z/OS and prerequisites:

  1. Configuring user ID and z/OS environment for WML for z/OS (by z/OS system programmer).
  2. Configuring z/OS Spark for WML for z/OS (by z/OS system programmer).
  3. Creating and configuring an SSL certificate (by z/OSsystem programmer and Linux on Z or Linux security administrator).
  4. Configuring an LDAP server with SDBM for user authentication (by z/OS security programmer).
  5. Installing and configuring WML for z/OS base on z/OS (by z/OS system programmer).
  6. Installing and configuring WML for z/OS IDE on Linux on Z or Linux (by Linux on Z or Linuxsystem administrator).
  7. Configuring WML for z/OS scoring services on z/OS (by z/OS system programmer).
  8. Optionally, Configuring WML for z/OS scoring services in a CICS region (by CICS system programmer).
  9. Optionally, Configuring client authentication for z/OS Spark (by z/OS system programmer and Linux on Z or Linux system administrators).
  10. Adding a runtime environment (by z/OS system programmer and administrator).
  11. Managing users and privileges (by z/OS system programmer and Linux on Z or Linux system administrator).
  12. Adding a WML for z/OS scoring service (by z/OS system programmer and Linux on Z or Linux system administrator).
  13. Configuring WML for z/OS performance (by z/OS system programmer).
