Installing directly from the Setup disk

If you want to install IBM® Rational® Software Architect Designer as a non-administrator, you must manually run the userinst program from the Setup disk instead of running the launchpad program. Running the userinst program provides you with the same functionality as starting the product installation from the launchpad.

About this task

To start the installation of Rational Software Architect Designer as a non-administrator from the Setup disk, complete the following steps:
  • If you are installing from the disks:
    1. Insert the Setup disk into your drive.
    2. For Linux: Mount the drive.
    3. If autorun is enabled on your computer, the launchpad program starts automatically. Stop the launchpad program.
    4. In a command line, change to the root of the Setup disk and do one of the following things:
      • For Windows: Run InstallerImage_win32_x86\userinst.exe.
      • For Linux: Run InstallerImage_linux_gtk_x86/userinst.
      • For OS X: Run 32-bit InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86/userinst.app or 64-bit InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86_64/userinst.app.
  • If you are installing from electronic disks downloaded from IBM Passport Advantage®, open a command line and change to the directory where you extracted the disk images, and then do one of the following things:
    • For Windows: Run RSA_SETUP\InstallerImage_win32_x86\userinst.exe.
    • For Linux: Run RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_linux_gtk_x86/userinst.
    • For OS X: Run userinst.app, which is located in the 32-bit InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86 or 64-bit InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86_64 sub-directory under the RSA_SETUP or RSA4WS_SETUP directory.
