Creating an installable image from installation files downloaded from Passport Advantage
If you download the installation files from IBM® Passport Advantage®, you must correctly extract the contents of the compressed
files before you can install the software.
Before you begin
- Review the Passport Advantage Parts List at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27048901 for Rational® Software Architect Designer or at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27048902 for Rational Software Architect Designer for WebSphere® Software. This web page describes all the parts that you can download for the current version of the product from IBM Passport Advantage.
- Review the topic for planning to install supporting software.
Typically, the following software is installed on the developer’s
computer:
- Rational Software Architect Designer
- WebSphere Application Server Test Environments
- Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments
- WebSphere Portal Server
- CICS® Transaction Gateway
- Download the installation files from the Passport Advantage web site.Tip: If possible, choose option to use the IBM Download Director applet to download the software. The Download Director applet automatically verifies the completeness of each file that it processes.Tip: If you use Download Director to download the software, then you can also use it to extract the contents of all the compressed files that you downloaded in the session. If you want to use Download Director to extract the contents of the compressed files downloaded in a session:
- Create a new directory (for example, create C:\temp\RSA_INSTALL_IMAGE).
- Extract the contents of the following the following items into
the new directory:
- Rational Software Architect Designer
- WebSphere Application Server Test Environments
- Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments
- Create a directory and the extract the contents of the WebSphere Portal Server compressed files into that directory.
- Create a directory and the extract the contents of the CICS Transaction Gateway compressed files into that directory.
About this task
- Note: By default, the extraction tool included in Windows operating systems extracts the contents of .zip files to <current directory of the .zip file>/<name of .zip file>. (For example, the contents of C:\temp\myfile.zip are extracted into C:\temp\myfile.) Do not use this default setting to extract the contents of each .zip file. Instead, follow the steps in this topic.
- When you extract the contents of the compressed files, ensure that you preserve the directory structure of the extracted contents.
