Upgrading with BigFix
The License Metric Tool infrastructure consists of a number of components. Each component is upgraded separately to give you flexibility concerning the time and frequency of upgrades.
To upgrade the entire infrastructure, you need to upgrade the following elements.
- Components of License Metric Tool: the server, VM Manager Tool, and the scanner. It is crucial to upgrade the License Metric Tool server regularly. For more information, see: Upgrading components of License Metric Tool (BigFix scenario).
- Databases that are used by License Metric Tool and BigFix®. Upgrading the database is usually necessary only when support for the version of the database that you are using is going to be removed. For more information, see the following links.
- Components of the BigFix platform: the server, console, clients, relays, and WebReports. In most cases, upgrading components of the BigFix platform is optional as features of License Metric Tool are independent from the version of BigFix. For more information, see: Upgrading components of the BigFix platform (BigFix scenario).
Important: You need to ensure that components are compatible with each other. For
example, if you share a database instance between License Metric Tool and BigFix, ensure that both applications support the version
that you are using or to which you want to upgrade.
Also, the subcapacity licensing model requires that you promptly upgrade to the latest application update. For more information, see: IBM License Metric Tool information and Software lifecycle: Product details for IBM License Metric Tool 9.2.x.
