Ensure that the computer on which the License Metric Tool server and its database are installed meets hardware requirements that are recommended for your environment size. The computer on which the components are deployed can be both a physical machine or a virtual one.

Environment size

License Metric Tool supports two types of endpoints: with the BigFix® client and with the disconnected scanner. Due to differences in how these types of endpoints work, they are assigned different weights:
  • Endpoints with the BigFix client are assigned the weight of 1.
  • Endpoints with the disconnected scanner are assigned the weight of 2.
License Metric Tool supports the maximum of 250 000 endpoint units. When calculating the total size of your environment, ensure that you take the endpoint weight into account. For example:
  • If your environment consists of 20 000 endpoints with the BigFix client, it has 20 000 endpoint units because each endpoint has the weight of 1.
  • If your environment consists of 20 000 endpoints with the disconnected scanner, it has 40 000 endpoint units because each endpoint is assigned the weight of 2.
  • If your environment consists of 20 000 endpoints with the BigFix client and 20 000 endpoints with the disconnected scanner, your environment has 60 000 endpoint units because each endpoint with the disconnected scanner is assigned the weight of 2.

Processor, RAM, storage and disk space

Requirements per deployment scenario
  • If you are installing License Metric Tool with BigFix and your environment consists of up to 25 000 endpoint units, refer to Table 2 for information about installing all components on a single server.
  • If you are installing License Metric Tool with BigFix and your environment consists of more than 25 000 endpoint units or you want to install BigFix on a separate computer regardless of the environment size, refer to Table 3. Additionally, see information about requirements for BigFix: BigFix requirements (BigFix scenario).
  • If you are installing License Metric Tool with disconnected scanners, refer to Table 3.
Disk space requirements
The following tables provide general information about disk space needed to install License Metric Tool. It might happen that less space is sufficient to install the components. For detailed information, including directories in which the space is needed and calculations that depend on the number of monitored computers, see the following links.

1 In case of environments with more than 50 000 endpoint units, storage speed is the most important performance factor. Increasing storage speed on the computer where the License Metric Tool database is installed will improve data import time and UI response time more than adding RAM or processor cores.

2 A distributed environment in which the License Metric Tool server and database are installed on separate computers is advised. However, it is possible to install both components on a single computer. In such case, sum up the requirements.
