Monitoring with Data Server Manager

Monitoring data is stored differently for base and enterprise versions of IBM® Data Server Manager (DSM)

Data monitoring in DSM Base vs DSM Enterprise

Users of the freely-distributed version of DSM, DSM Base, have access to In-memory monitoring of their connected database. This provides the user with data derived from monitoring several key metrics when a query is run and executed on their connected database. This data is stored on the user's DSM server, and is collected every two minutes, by default. Data can be stored for any amount of time that the user chooses, however, longer periods of time require greater amounts of physical memory on the user's DSM server. These values are set when a user creates their monitoring profile in the DSM console, and can be changed as needed.

Users that purchase DSM Enterprise, in addition to In-memory monitoring of their executed SQL statements, have access to additional monitoring data, compiled by Db2®. When repository persistence is activated in the user's monitoring profile (which requires the user to create a repository database) this data is retrieved from the package cache of their Db2 database. It is then filtered by DSM, using key metrics, to display only the Top N number of queries for each key metric. Records in the DSM Package Cache page can be sorted by each of these key metrics, and can be further sorted by Total value or Average value.
