How do I find what I'm looking for?

One of the most powerful and useful features of IBM Verse is its dynamic and analytics-driven search capacity. Search through every piece of mail with precision and ease of use.

You'll see that the Search bar is above your inbox and below the people in the top bar.

Enter text into the bar, and IBM Verse will search through all of your content for matching content. Even if you are in your Inbox when you type into the Search bar, you're searching all documents. Search will even look for search terms in mail that has been filed into folders, and suggest search terms for you as you type. Select any of them to run the search without having to type the entire string. Note that the suggestions are only for people and folders.

Results display in a window underneath the bar. Selecting any of the entries places them into the Search Bar as filters, and initiates the search.

You can also simply click on the picture of any people in your main bar to quickly do a search for messages 'From' them. Their name will appear as a filter in the search bar, and you can further refine the results by selecting the attached arrow next to the filter and choosing 'To' (for messages sent To them) or 'All' (for messages To and From them).

You can remove any filter from the Search Bar (and the resulting search) by clicking on the “x” next to the name. You can clear all filters from the Search Bar by clicking the “x” at the far end of the Search Bar.

As powerful as the IBM Verse Search Bar is, another aspect makes it even more useful: the Facets panel.

The Facets panel opens automatically with every search, but you can also open it prior to a search by selecting its icon on the left side of the screen. If you open it before a search, the information represents statistics for the current view or folder you are in.

The number at the top of the panel represents the total number of search results for your query, while the numbers below are more stratified. You'll notice that the Facets panel is divided into three useful sections: Time, Folder, and Sender. Each section contains analytic information pertaining to your search.

The Time section divides your search results into different categories of time, such as breaking search results into items from Today, This Week, This Month, and so on. The Sender section breaks down the search results and divides it between individual senders of messages.

Clicking on any item in the Facet/Refine panel adds a filter to the search bar and the message list refreshes to the results of the new search. The Facets panel will shift to display new metrics for the new search. For example, if you were to click This Week, only the analytics for search results from This Week and earlier would display, as well as the the names in the Sender section that had also sent messages this week or earlier. You can close the Facets panel by clicking its back arrow.
