Specifying the deployment of artifacts within nodes

In UML modeling, you deploy artifacts on nodes to indicate that the node supports the deployment of instances of these artifacts when the system runs.

Before you begin

A diagram must be open in the diagram editor and it must contain at least one node and one artifact.

About this task

To specify the deployment of an artifact on a node, in the diagram editor, click an artifact and drag it over the Deployments Textual or Deployments Graphical compartments of the node. You can also create a Deploy relationship from the artifact to the node.

Results

As the following figure illustrates, the artifact, named Artifact1, is connected by a dashed line to the node, named Node1, An open arrowhead points from the artifact to the node. The artifact is also displayed in the Deployments Textual and Deployments Graphical compartments of the node, if those compartments are shown in the diagram.

An artifact is connected to a node and is shown in the Deployment compartments of that node.
Note: You can also deploy artifact instances on node instances.
