Server system requirements
In the Server System Requirements, you can find the hardware and software requirements for the database, application, and other servers that are required for Sterling B2B Integrator.
Before you start installing, ensure that your operating system and hardware meet the published system requirements, and any requirements specific to your customized implementation.
To approximate your system requirements, determine the processes, components, and transaction volume required for your implementation. IBM® Services personnel are available to assist you in this effort.

Size Requirements
System size is the volume of activity your system can support. The size is computed based on processing speed, RAM (random access memory), CPUs (central processing units), and amount of free disk space available.
When planning your implementation, remember that although the published minimum size requirements support the Sterling B2B Integrator, they may not support for any increase in capability required by the particulars of your implementation, such as the number of transactions processed and the amount of data transferred.
Your implementation may include one or more test environments in addition to the production environment. Running a test environment is recommended because Sterling B2B Integrator enables you to bundle the work from the test environment and migrate it to the production environment when you are ready.
Host system requirements
- File system space will be needed if you use the option to store documents on the file system. The amount of space needed will vary depending on the size of documents to be stored and the length of time you choose to retain documents on the file system.
- Refer to the documentation you received with the database server to determine the minimum system requirements. (UNIX, Linux, and Windows)
- You should run Sterling B2B Integrator and your database on different servers. (UNIX, Linux, and Windows)
- If you are using a graphical user interface (GUI) for your installation of Sterling B2B Integrator on UNIX or Linux, you must install an X Window-compatible tool.
Database sizing and capacity planning
Database sizing is designed to give you estimates of the database growth and to help you plan the disk requirements.
There are many factors to consider when you are estimating the amount of disk space that is required for Sterling B2B Integrator. As a result, trying to consider all growth factors is impractical because the user might not know the answers to many questions that are required to do a detailed forecast. Over the years the cost of disks has dramatically decreased, and the capacity and speed of disks has increased. The method of how information system managers order disk capacity also has changed, from purchasing disk arrays that are dedicated to a particular database server and project, to the concept of SANS (storage area networks).
Consider the confidence that you have in your data estimates when you are making the final purchase decision and adjust accordingly. After the initial purchase and production deployment, disk growth should be tracked for future purchase forecasts.
You should track your actual database storage usage and the number of database records regularly. Correlating these two metrics enabled you to plan your future disk requirements. Moreover, determining the average amount of space used for each order line or shipment line, enables you to accurately predict your future growth requirements.
