Reference codes
Reference codes are diagnostic aids that help you determine the source of a hardware or operating system problem. Reference codes enable you to find the solution to resolve the problems. To use reference codes effectively, you must use them along with other service and support procedures.
Reference codes that begin with a number sign (#)
A reference code that begins with a number sign character (#) represents an AIX® operating system diagnostics message.
Failing function codes, failing items, and symbolic FRUs
Failing function codes (FFCs), failing items, and symbolic field replaceable units (FRUs) provide the information necessary to fix a problem that is identified by a system reference code (SRC) or service request number (SRN).
Isolation procedures
Isolation procedures are used together with diagnostic programs, which are part of the server firmware.
IBM i service functions
The service functions provide details for the service provider to gather information about hardware problems while under the direction of the next level of support.
Finding parts, locations, and addresses
Locate physical part locations and identify parts with system diagrams.
Removing and replacing parts
Use these procedures to remove and replace failing parts. These parts are referred to as field replaceable units (FRUs).
