HMC Classic and HMC Enhanced GUI

Learn about the differences between the HMC Classic and HMC Enhanced graphical user interface (GUI) in the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

Select which software interface to use when you log in to the HMC. The HMC Classic interface provides access to all traditional functions of the HMC and the HMC Enhanced interface provides both redesigned and new virtualization tasks and functions.

The HMC Classic GUI is available by default on the HMC Version 8.1.0, or earlier.

The HMC Classic GUI is available on the HMC Version 8.1.0.1, or later by choosing the HMC Classic option while logging into the HMC.

The HMC Enhanced GUI is available on the HMC Version 8.1.0.1, or later by choosing the HMC Enhanced option while logging into the HMC.

The following table shows the differences between the HMC Classic GUI and the HMC Enhanced GUI on the HMC. This table also lists the new tasks that are available on the HMC Enhanced GUI that replaces the older tasks that are available on the HMC Classic GUI.
