CHECK

Look here for information about the CHECK symbolic FRU.

If the attached device is an external device, perform the following steps before exchanging any parts:

  1. Ensure that the device is powered on.
  2. Is there a SCSI interface between the IOA and the device?
    • No: Continue with the next step.
    • Yes: Complete the following steps:
      1. If an interposer is required, make sure that it is connected between the I/O adapter and the SCSI cable.
      2. Ensure that the SCSI cable is seated correctly, and that there are no bent or damaged pins on the SCSI cable.
      3. Ensure that a terminating plug is attached to the device end of the SCSI cable.
      4. Continue with the next step.
  3. Is there a Fibre Channel interface between the IOA and the device?
    • No: Continue with the next step.
    • Yes: Complete the following steps:
      1. Verify that any hub or gateway devices are powered on.
      2. Verify that the Fibre Channel cable is correctly connected to the ports.
      3. If a cleaning kit is available, clean the Fibre Channel cable connectors.
      4. Continue with the next step.
  4. Is there a SAS interface between the IOA and the device?
    • No: Continue with the next step.
    • Yes: Complete the following steps:
      1. Verify that the SAS cable is correctly connected to the ports.
      2. Continue with the next step.
  5. Is there a USB interface between the IOA and the device?
    • No: Continue with step 13.
    • Yes: Continue with the next step.
  6. Is the USB port location to which the device is attached available in the service action log?
    • No: To determine the USB port location, go to USB_DEV. Do not replace any failing items. Then, continue with the next step.
    • Yes: Continue with the next step.
  7. Is the USB cable connected correctly to the port?
    • No: Correct the cabling problem. Then, continue with step 13.
    • Yes: Continue with the next step.
  8. Is the device an external RDX drive?
    • No: Continue with step 13.
    • Yes: Continue with the next step.
  9. Did a power interruption occur, or is the power source not connected correctly to the RDX docking station?
    • No: Continue with step 13.
    • Yes: Continue with the next step.
  10. Complete the following actions:
    1. Disconnect the USB cable and the power source from the RDX docking station so that the device can power off completely.
    2. Connect the RDX docking station to the power source.
    3. After the power source is connected, connect the USB cable to the RDX docking station.
    4. Continue with the next step.
  11. Is the device operational?
    • No: Continue with the next step.
    • Yes: Continue with step 13.
  12. Ensure that the IOA that controls the RDX drive is not using any other devices. Then, complete the following actions:
    1. Enter STRSST on the command line.
    2. On the Start Service Tools Sign On display, type the user ID with QSRV authority and password.
    3. Select Start a service tool > Hardware service manager > Logical hardware resources > System bus resources.
    4. Move the cursor to the logical IOP that is associated with the IOA that controls the RDX drive, and select I/O Debug > IPL I/O processor.
    5. When the IPL of the I/O processor is complete, continue with the next step.
  13. Perform the verification procedures that are located in the service information for the system unit to check whether the problem was corrected.

This ends the procedure.
