The PCI controller, PCI bridge, or embedded PCI switch hardware is having a problem with one or more PCI adapter slots or internal connections. The exact card or adapter might not be identified in the serviceable event view.

The problem might be with a PCI card, a PCI card slot, or an embedded PCI adapter. The PCI bus number is indicated by the direct select address (DSA) in word 7 of the reference code. This symbolic FRU appears in the serviceable event view only when the Licensed Internal Code cannot determine which PCI card or PCI bridge set has the problem.

  1. Are you working from the serviceable event view of an operating system, service processor, or the management console that is displaying a card position or list of card positions for this failing item in the failing item list?
    • Yes: Replace the cards at the locations indicated, one at a time, until the problem is resolved. For more information about locations, see Part locations and location codes. This ends the procedure.
    • No: Complete the following steps:
      1. Determine the location of the card that is part of the group of PCI bus connections or PCI card slots by using the DSA. Record the DSA (word 7 of the reference code) from the user interface you are using.
      2. Locate the cards that are specified in the DSA by completing isolation procedure MABIP53. Return here and continue with the next step after you locate the cards.
  2. Did isolation procedure MABIP53 identify a single card location?
    • Yes: Replace the card at the location that was identified by isolation procedure MABIP53. For more information about locations, see Part locations and location codes. This ends the procedure.
    • No: The bus number is the 4 leftmost characters of the 8 character DSA identified in step 1. If the bus number is of the form 00xx or 0xxy, use the xx portion of the bus number and the tables at the end of this procedure to determine whether the bus controls a single card slot or a PCI bridge set. Then, continue with the next step.
  3. Does the bus control a single card slot?
    • Yes: Replace the card at the location that was identified in step 2. For more information about locations, see Part locations and location codes. This ends the procedure.
    • No: Use the card slots that were identified in step 2 to complete the following steps:
      1. Remove all of the adapters in the locations that are identified in the given range of card slots. Do not remove any FRUs that have embedded adapters. Remove only FRUs located in PCI card slots.
      2. Replace each card, one card at a time. Power on the unit after you replace each card until either the problem reappears or all of the cards are replaced. Then, continue with the next step.
  4. Did the problem reappear?
    • Yes: The last card that you replaced before the problem reappeared is the failing item. This ends the procedure.
    • No: Continue with the next step.
  5. Did you identify an embedded adapter for the bus number?
    • Yes: Replace the FRU that has the embedded adapter. For more information about locations, see Part locations and location codes. This ends the procedure.
    • No: The problem might be intermittent. Contact your next level of support. This ends the procedure.
