Table 1. 2.5/6.25 TB Ultrium 6 SAS tape drive features
Feature Description
Description

The Ultrium 6 serial-attached SCSI (SAS) tape drive is a half-high tape drive designed for Open Systems backup and restore applications. These files can include multimedia, imaging, transaction processing, large databases, and other storage-intensive applications. It is the fourth generation in the Ultrium series of products, and is available with a SAS interface. The tape drive is an LTO Ultrium 6 standard interchange device. The drive reads tapes written by other Ultrium 6 drives, and writes to tapes that are readable by other Ultrium 6 drives. For an illustration of the drive, see Front view of tape drive.

Characteristics:

  • Single port 6 Gbps Serial Attached Small Computer Systems Interface (SAS)
  • Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) part number is 35P1049. For media part numbers, see Tape cartridges (FC EU11).
  • Native storage capacity of 2.5 TB per cartridge (6.25 TB at 2.4:1 compression)
  • Custom card identification number (CCIN) is 63A0
  • Data transfer rate: 160 MB per second native mode, 400 MB per second at 2.4:1 compression
  • Burst data transfer rate of 600 MB per second
  • 256 MB read-and-write cache
  • Support for encryption on Ultrium 4, 5, and 6 tape cartridges
  • Single-character display (SCD) operator panel
  • Ready and Fault status lights
  • Maintenance mode functions
  • Downward read and write compatibility with earlier LTO-type data cartridges.
  • Operation: Streaming
  • Half-height form factor
  • Can be used as a bootable device, depending on the host system configuration.
Tools

The following tools and documentation are needed to complete the installation:

  • A flat-blade screwdriver (if this device is not an auto-docking feature on your system)
  • Your system unit documentation, including any service documentation
  • Your operating system documentation

Contact the place of purchase if an item is missing or damaged.

Note: If you are installing the auto-docking version of this device on your system, see your system documentation for information about the auto-docking feature.
Media

The drive reads and writes on Ultrium 6 and Ultrium 5 cartridges, and reads Ultrium 4 cartridges. The drive cannot read or write on Ultrium 3, Ultrium 2, and Ultrium 1 cartridges.

Each Ultrium 6 tape cartridge can store up to 2.5 TB of uncompressed data, or up to 6.25 TB of compressed data.

Note: The actual capacity varies depending on the application, the type of data, and the tape cartridge. When data compression is activated, 2.5 TB is typical and 6.25 TB is possible. The default setting of data compression is controlled by the host system. The user and the application software can control the activation or deactivation of the data compression setting. The drive can optimally achieve a 2:1 compression ratio.
