Integrated Virtualization Manager

You can use the Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM), a component of the PowerVM™ Editions hardware feature, to manage your Virtual I/O Server and client logical partitions.

The Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM) provides a Web-based system management interface and a command-line interface that you can use to manage some IBM® Power Systems™ servers and some IBM BladeCenter® blade servers that use the IBM Virtual I/O Server. On the managed system, you can create logical partitions, manage virtual storage and virtual Ethernet, and view service information related to the server. The IVM is included with the Virtual I/O Server, but it is available and usable only on certain platforms, and where no Hardware Management Console (HMC) is present.

If you install the Virtual I/O Server on a supported server, and if there is no HMC attached to the server when you install the Virtual I/O Server, then the IVM is enabled on that server. You can then use the IVM to configure the managed system through the Virtual I/O Server.

For information about using the Virtual I/O Server on a system that is managed by the HMC, see Installing the Virtual I/O Server and client logical partitions.
