Install the model 9116-561 and 570 system processor assembly

You might need to install the system processor assembly. Use the procedure in this section to perform this task.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), you can use the HMC to complete the steps for installing a system processor assembly. For instructions, see Install a feature using the Hardware Management Console.

To install the system processor assembly, do the following:

  1. Remove the existing system processor assembly or filler. Refer to Remove the model 9116-561 and 570 system processor assembly.
    Attention:
    • Attach a wrist strap to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging your hardware.
    • When using a wrist strap, follow all electrical safety procedures. A wrist strap is for static control. It does not increase or decrease your risk of receiving electric shock when using or working on electrical equipment.
    • If you do not have a wrist strap, just prior to removing the product from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an unpainted metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
If necessary, remove the new system processor assembly from its antistatic package.
  2. Install any dual inline memory modules (DIMMs) in the new system processor assembly. Refer to Install model 9116-561 or 570 memory modules.
  3. Place the system processor assembly A into the system backplane assembly, and then lock it into place with the locking arms B as shown. Press the locking knobs C into the locked position.

  5. Rotate the lever B to the right and in toward the system to lock the system backplane assembly.
  6. Replace the model 9116-561 or 570 voltage regulator assembly.
  7. Replace the control panel. Refer to Replace the model 9116-561 or 570 control panel.

  8. As shown in Figure 3, align the tab A on the SMP cable latch with the slot B and move the latch in to attach to the system processor assembly. Tighten the locking knobs C to the locked position.

  9. Reconnect the SMP processor cable to a system unit.
  10. Install the front cover on the model 9116-561 or 570.
  11. Reconnect all power cables and signal cables to their respective connectors.
  12. Start the system or logical partition.
  13. Verify that the system processor assembly is functional. Refer to Verify the installed part.
