Replace the model p5 520 or 285 voltage regulator module

You might need to replace a voltage regulator module. Use the procedure in this section to perform this task.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), you can use the HMC to complete the steps for replacing a voltage regulator module. For instructions, see Replace a part using the Hardware Management Console.

To replace a voltage regulator module, do the following:

  1. Remove the voltage regulator module from its antistatic package.
  2. Install the voltage regulator module.
    1. Ensure that the connector tabs are pushed out to the unlocked position A before installing a new voltage regulator module, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Carefully grasp the voltage regulator module along two edges and align it with the connector.
    3. Insert the voltage regulator module into the connector.
    4. Secure the voltage regulator module by pushing in the connector tabs B.
  3. Replace the fan tray assembly if you removed it. Refer to Replace the model 520 fan tray assembly
  4. Replace the model service access cover. Refer to Install the service access cover on the model 285, 51x, 52x, 55x, 710, or OpenPower 720.
  5. If you have a rack-mounted system, place it in the operating position. Refer to Place the rack-mounted system or expansion unit in the operating position.
  6. If you have a rack-mounted system, replace the front cover. Refer to Install the front cover on the rack-mounted model 285, 52x, 55x, or OpenPower 720, or the 0595 expansion unit.
  7. Restore power to the system by reconnecting the system power cables.
  8. Start the system or logical partition.
  9. Verify that the system processor assembly is functional. Refer to Verify the installed part.
