MEXIP02
Use this procedure to isolate a problem detecting a required I/O module or enclosure services manager (ESM) in an expansion drawer.
Procedure
- Is a location code in the format
Un-Px available in the serviceable event view for the
reference code you are working on?
- Yes: The location provided is the location of an ESM that is required, but not detected. Continue with step 7.
- No: Continue with the next step.
-
Is a location code in the format
Un-Px-Cy or
Un-Px-Cy-Cz available in
the serviceable event view for the reference code you are working on?
- Yes: The location provided is the location of a cable adapter that is connected to an expansion drawer which is missing a required I/O module or ESM. Continue with the next step.
- No: Contact your next level of support. This ends the procedure.
- Trace the expansion drawer cable or cables from the cable adapter that was identified in the previous step to the attached I/O module or ESM of the expansion drawer. For information about locations, see Part locations and location codes.
- If the expansion drawer that you identified in step 3 is an EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawer or ENZ0 PCIe4 expansion drawer, continue with step 5. If it is an NED24 NVMe expansion drawer, continue with step 7.
-
The I/O module that was identified in step 3 is in the right bay of the expansion drawer. Is an I/O module present and properly seated in the left bay of the
expansion drawer?
- Yes: Continue with the next step.
- No: The installed firmware level requires an I/O module to be installed in the left bay. Install a supported I/O module in this location. For more information about location codes and removal and replacement procedures, see Part locations and location codes. For more information about part numbers, see System parts. This ends the procedure.
-
Trace the expansion drawer cables from the I/O module
in the left bay and the I/O module in the right bay to
their corresponding cable adapters in the system unit. Ensure that the following requirements are
met:
- Each I/O module expansion drawer cable pair is connected to the same cable adapter.
- Both ends of all expansion drawer cables are properly seated.
Were any problems detected with the expansion drawer cables?- Yes: If any expansion drawer cables are not properly located or seated, reroute or reseat the expansion drawer cables. Then, continue with the next step.
- No: Continue with the next failing item in the failing item list of the serviceable event. This ends the procedure.
- Has a B7006Axx or B7006Bxx
reference code been logged about the same time as the reference code that sent you to this isolation
procedure, and is the ESM that was identified in step 1 or
step 3 included in the failing item list associated with the
reference code?
- Yes: Resolve the B7006Axx or B7006Bxx reference code first. If the problem persists, continue with the next step. This ends the procedure.
- No: Continue with the next step.
- Is the ESM that was identified in step 1 or step 3 present and
properly seated?
- Yes: Continue with the next step.
- No: The installed firmware level requires an ESM to be present in both locations Un-P1 and Un-P2 of the expansion drawer. Install supported ESMs in these locations. For more information about location codes and removal and replacement procedures, see Part locations and location codes. For more information about part numbers, see System parts. This ends the procedure.
- Is an ESM present and properly seated in the other bay of the
expansion drawer?
- Yes: Continue with the next step.
- No: The installed firmware level requires an ESM to be installed in both locations Un-P1 and Un-P2 of the expansion drawer. Install a supported ESM in this location. For more information about location codes and removal and replacement procedures, see Part locations and location codes. For more information about part numbers, see System parts. This ends the procedure.
- Trace the expansion drawer cables from both ESMs in the expansion
drawer to their corresponding cable adapters in the system unit. Ensure that the following
requirements are met:
- If the expansion drawer is an NED24 NVMe expansion drawer, each ESM expansion drawer cable pair is connected to the same cable adapter.
- Use procedure MEXIP06 to recover the expansion
drawer. Is the problem resolved?
- Yes: This ends the procedure.
- No: Continue with the next failing item in the failing item list of the serviceable event. This ends the procedure.
