Managing the system by using the IPMI

Learn how to configure and manage your system by using the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI).

IPMI Overview
Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is a standardized message-based hardware management interface. At the core of the IPMI is a hardware chip that is known as the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), or Management Controller (MC).
Common IPMI commands
You can use IPMI commands to perform various managing tasks for your system.
Checking your system health
You can use your system BMC to monitor your system vital signs. Additionally, the BMC logs any potential health issues into the System Event Log (SEL). You can view the vital signs by using the ipmitool Sensor Data Record (SDR) command.
Setting up password controls
You can set up password controls for BMC LAN access on Power Systems servers.
Power cycling your system
The IPMItool chassis command can be used to obtain information and the status of a system locally or remotely.
