Replacing a disk drive or SSD in the 5147-024 or ESLS storage enclosure with the power turned on in Linux
Find information about replacing a disk drive or solid-state drive (SSD) in an enclosure with the Linux operating system or Linux logical partition that controls the drive location powered on.
To replace a disk drive or an SSD in an enclosure, complete
the following steps:
- On the console, complete the following steps:
- From the IBM Power RAID Configuration Utility display, select Work with disk unit recovery, and then press Enter.
- From the Work with Disk Unit Recovery display, select Concurrent add
device. Press Enter. A Concurrent Device Add display similar to the following example is shown. Figure 1. Example Concurrent Device Add display

The Verify Device Concurrent Add display is shown. The service indicator flashes for that drive slot.
- Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap attached. If not, attach it now.
- With the handle in the unlocked position, as shown in Figure 2,
support the bottom of the drive as you align it with the guide rails
in the expansion unit. Note: Support the drive by holding the drive by its sides.
- Slide the drive halfway into the enclosure.
- On the console, press Enter on the Complete Device Concurrent Add display to indicate that the drive is installed. The service indicator stops flashing and turns off for that drive slot.
- When the identify LED flashes, slide the drive into the enclosure until the drive stops. Important: Ensure that the drive is fully seated and is all the way into the system.
- Lock the drive by rotating the bay handle (A) in

- On the console, press Enter on the Complete Device Concurrent Add display to indicate that the drive is installed. The service indicator stops flashing and turns off for that drive slot.
- If you are replacing more than one drive, repeat the steps in this procedure until all drives are replaced.
