Copying a dump by using a management console

You can copy a dump by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

Note: If you have a management console, you must manage your platform dumps with the management console. However, you will need to manage IBM® i main storage dumps with the IBM i service tools.
To copy a dump on a HMC, choose one of the following navigation options depending on the interface type of the HMC:
  • If you are using an HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced interface, complete the following steps:
    1. In the navigation area, click Systems management > Servers.
    2. To enable the tasks for that server, select the required server name.
    3. From the Tasks menu, click Serviceability > Manage Dumps.
    4. Verify that the HMC that contains the dump is the HMC being used to copy the dump.
    5. In the Manage Dumps window, click Selected > Copy Dump to Media.
    6. Load the media and follow the instructions on the display.
    7. When the copy procedure is successfully completed, remove the media and process it according to the instructions of your next level of support or your hardware service provider.
    8. If you encounter a problem with the copy procedure, contact your next level of support or your hardware service provider.
  • If you are using an HMC Enhanced+ interface, complete the following steps:
    1. In the navigation area, click the HMC Management icon Resources, and then click All Systems.
    2. To view the actions for that server, select the server name of the required server.
    3. In the navigation area, click Serviceability > Serviceability.
    4. In the Serviceability window, under View and Collect, click Manage Dumps.
    5. Verify that the HMC that contains the dump is the HMC being used to copy the dump.
    6. In the Manage Dumps window, click Selected > Copy Dump to Media.
    7. Load the media and follow the instructions on the display.
    8. When the copy procedure is successfully completed, remove the media and process it according to the instructions of your next level of support or your hardware service provider.
    9. If you encounter a problem with the copy procedure, contact your next level of support or your hardware service provider.
