Configuration requirements for Active Memory Deduplication

Active Memory™ Deduplication requires the PowerVM® Active Memory Sharing technology. Active Memory Deduplication is supported only on shared memory logical partitions.

The following table lists the hardware and software requirements for configuring Active Memory Deduplication.

Table 1. Prerequisites for Active Memory Deduplication
Component Minimum level Comments
Hardware POWER7® processor-based servers with firmware at level 7.4, or later The POWER7 processor is the minimum hardware level.
I/O devices I/O devices All I/O devices must be virtualized by the Virtual I/O Server (VIOS).
Managed system firmware Firmware level 7.4, or later You must validate the firmware version by using the hardware management interface.
PowerVM PowerVM Enterprise Edition You must obtain and enter a PowerVM Editions activation code.
Management console Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 7, Release 7.4.0, with mandatory eFix MH01235, or later You must check this version on the Welcome page of the HMC.
VIOS VIOS Version 2.1.1.10, Fix Pack 21 You can check the VIOS version by running the ioslevel command from the VIOS command line.
AIX®

IBM® AIX Version 6 Technology Level 7, or later

IBM AIX Version 7 Technology Level 1, or later

You can check the AIX version by running the oslevel -s command from the AIX command line.
IBM i IBM i Version 7.1.4, or later You can check the IBM i version by running the dsppttf command from the IBM i command line.
Linux

Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11, Service Pack 2

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 6.2

You can check the SUSE Linux version by running the cat /etc/SuSE-release command from the SUSE Linux command line.

You can check the Red Hat Enterprise Linux version by running the cat /etc/redhat-release command from the Red Hat Linux command line.
