APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Statistics file contains a variable with 13 decimal places. When
    exporting this file to .xlsx format, opening in Excel displays
    5-6 decimal places only. Exporting to .xls format does not
    produce this problem.

Local fix

  • Prior to exporting, change the variable type from Numeric to
    String. This will keep the precision of the decimal places.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Statistics file contains a variable with 13 decimal places. *
    * When exporting this file to .xlsx format, opening in Excel *
    * displays 5-6 decimal places only, even after expanding the *
    * number of decimals within Excel to show 10 or more. *
    * Exporting to .xls format does not produce this problem. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Please download and install the SPSS Statistics 20 FixPack1 *
    * to resolve this issue. *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • After applying the FixPack, exporting large decimal places will
    now be retained within the .xlsx file. Please note that you will
    still need to expand the number of decimal places within Excel
    in order to display the entire numeric number.
