PM51862: THE PRESENCE OF AN MR SET WITH AN EXTENDED CHARACTER IN ITS NAME IN DATA CAUSES DATASET CLASS TO FAIL

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• You work with IBM SPSS Statistics 20 and Python Integration
  PlugIn. Within your SPSS data file (*.sav) you saved some
  multiple response sets (MR sets) which names inlude some
  extended characters, e.g. some special characters from Polish
  language (e.g. capital L with stroke).
  
  You then run a Python program which does not reference any MR
  sets.
  
  begin program.
  import spss
  spss.StartDataStep()
  obj = spss.Dataset()
  print "IBM SPSS Statistics 20"
  spss.EndDataStep()
  END PROGRAM.
  
  The program fails reporting that it cannot find an MR set.  The
  set not found is the one with the extended character.
  The issue is related to dataStep.py and returns an error as the
  one below:
  
  spss.errMsg.SpssError: [errLevel 106] Cannot find specified
  multiple response set.
  
  This problem was reported to IBM SPSS Development. It is
  expected to be addressed with IBM SPSS Statistics 20 FixPack 1.
