PM51667: PRODUCTION MODE IN SPSS STATISTICS 20.0 TAKES FOUR TIMES AS LONG TO COMPLETE COMPARED TO STATISTICS 18.0.3

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When executing a Production Job, accessing the same data and
  generating the same output, Statistics 18.0.3 is completing in
  approximately 15mins. Whereas Statistics 20.0 is finishing in
  approximately 60 mins. In this example, a VARSTOCASES command is
  being used to transform the a sample dataset. This command, when
  completed, will generate 26282 variables.
  
  Same syntax is being generated by both applications, execution
  of it is just taking longer in version 20.0.
  
  Changes have been made between versions, with the major being
  the change from Sun JRE 1.6 (Java Runtime Environment) to IBM J9
  JRE 1.6. However it should not degrade performance to this
  level.

Problem conclusion

• After applying the FixPack, changes have been made in how the
  Statistics engine handles data while in Production mode. This
  change allows a much faster processing of data and improvement
  in processing times.
