PI94597: IN IBM Z/OS EXPLORER 3.1.1.4, RSE CONNECTION TYPE TELNET DOES NOTCONNECT AND HANGS CLIENT

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Creating a terminal connection using the telnet type and
  attempting to launch, the connection hangs the workbench.
  An error is returned in the workspace .log:

  To recreate:
  1) Open a workspace with the Remote Systems view and select New
  Connection
  2) Select Telnet Only (Experimental)...
  3) Type a Connection Name that has not been used in RSE
  connections
  4) On Next, he screen Telent Shells (Experimental) shows Telnet
  Settings.
  5) Select Telnet Settings under Available Services.
  6) Hit Next and Finish.
  7) The connection with Telnet Shells and Terminals is added at
  the bottom of the list of Remote Systems view.
  8) Right click on Terminals and select Connect or Launch
  Terminal.  A view opens but no connect occurs.
  
  This connection type is not officially supported.  It will be
  removed in future releases.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• The product starts up with the RSE telnet and FTP connection
  types enabled by default but since neither of these is used by
  z/OS Explorer, they should be disabled by default.
  

Problem conclusion

• Behavior changed to disable these connection types as default
  start up options.
