Question & Answer
Question
How to move a STAP from one collector to another?
Cause
If a collector is getting overwhelmed with traffic from some traffic-heavy STAPs, moving those STAPs to one or more under-utilized collectors will provide relief to the previously overwhelmed collector.
Answer
Instructions for moving STAPs from one collector to another:
1) Login to the Collector GUI as admin user (or any user with admin role).
2) Navigate to Administration Console > Local Taps > S-TAP Control
3) Click on the Edit S-TAP Configuration icon for the STAP that you wish to move.
4) Click on "+" to expand the Details section, and enable the All Can Control checkbox.
5) Click on "+" to expand the Guardium Hosts section, and add a new Guardium host
(secondary Guardium host), and save your changes (STAP will be restarted with the new settings).
6) Repeat steps 1 thru 3 on the secondary Guardium host.
7) Click on "+" to expand Guardium Hosts section, and click on the "Make Primary" icon
next to the secondary Guardium host to make it the new primary Guardium host, and save your changes (STAP will be restarted with the new settings).
8) Confirm that the secondary Guardium host is now the new primary Guardium host
(the "Make Primary" icon should appear next to the old primary Guardium host).
9) If step 8) is successful, click on the "x" icon next to the old primary Guardium host,
and save your changes (STAP will be restarted with the new settings).
10) After waiting for a few minutes, repeat steps 1 and 2 on the old Guardium host gui and verify whether the STAP is still showing up there.
If the STAP is not showing up on the gui, skip step 11.
11) If step 10 indicates that the STAP entry still exists on the the old primary Guardium host gui, click on the "x" icon next to the STAP.
This will un-register the STAP from the old primary Guardium host.
