Problem
This technote explains why the errors []Trouble contacting registry on host "host name": no such file or directory[] and []Operation "rgy_add_entry" failed: error detected by ClearCase subsystem[] might occur when using IBM® Rational® ClearCase® to create a new VOB or view on Microsoft® Windows®.
Symptom
Error reported during an attempt to create a new view:
- Error creating view - "my_view4"
Trouble contacting registry on host "myhost"; No such file or directory.
Operation "rgy_add_entry" failed: error detected by ClearCase subsystem.
Unable to create view "\\myhost\views\my_view4.vws".
Error reported during an attempt to create a new VOB:
- Error creating VOB:
VOB Creation Wizard: Error: Trouble contacting registry on host "myhost": No such file or directory.
VOB Creation Wizard: Error: Operation "rgy_add_entry" failed: error detected by ClearCase subsystem.
VOB Creation Wizard: Error: Could not update vob object registry entry, attributes may be missing.
VOB Creation Wizard: Error: Could not add VOB to object registry.
VOB Creation Wizard: Error: Unable to create versioned object base "\\myhost\vobs\test-vob.vbs".
Cause
The files and folders have been removed from the <clearcase_install_directory>\var\rgy directory on the ClearCase Registry server. This issue may occur after changing the ClearCase registry server host.
Diagnosing The Problem
Navigate to the directory on the ClearCase registry server that contains the registry files (the default location is: C:\Program Files\Rational\ClearCase\var\rgy) to see if the files are missing from that directory.
The directory contents should look similar to the following:
Resolving The Problem
Copy the entire contents of the rgy directory from the old registry server (used prior to the change) or from a registry backup to this new server.
Restart ClearCase and attempt the operation again.
