Error description

  • Rational Developer for i (RDI) 9.6.0.6 may not correctly support
    a qualified parameter with a value that uses single quotes when
    prompting a CL command. The CL Prompt fails to open and reports
    error EVFCL0020 "Character X not valid following string
    Y".

    This could happen for a parameter such as
       MYPARM('email@address.com'/'Name'/*TO)

    The problem occurs when the CL parameter definition has
    qualifier parts to it, and some of the values for the qualifier
    sections of the parameter value are enclosed in single quotes.
    (The qualifier sections are separated by forward slashes outside
    of quotes.)

    The problem does not occur when double quotes are used, as often
    done for a common library/object parameter like
       SRCFILE("A.b"/"My.src")

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * The CL Command Prompter will not work for a valid command *
    * string that has a qualified parameter with a value using *
    * single quotes. Example:     MYPARM('Last Name'/'First Name') *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The CL Prompter was not able to correctly interpret the
    expression; but diagnosed it as invalid and refused to prompt
    it.
