Error description

  • When building a dll from command line in Microsoft Visual Studio
.Net (VS.NET) 2005 in a local IBM Rational ClearCase dynamic
view, the dll is corrupt and cannot be registered inside or
outside of the view.

When opening the dll in dependency walker, the problem reported
is the MSVCR80.DLL.  In reviewing the filemon output, this file
is not called by the mvpdbsvr, cl, or link.exe.

It appears to be a timing issue when you are in the mvfs.

  • This issue is fixed in ClearCase 8.0.
Due to lack of granularity in file modification timestamps
(no milliseconds), times appear different between MVFS and
NTFS.  This can cause incorrect actions to be taken by the
IDE.
