Error description

  • During backup or archive operations, the client incorrectly
stores atime, mtime, ctime, timestamps on the IBM Spectrum
Protect Server and if the timestamp is outside the following
range 'January 1, 1970 through February 7, 2106'. This can cause
the file to be backed up even if it has not changed.
As a result, the restore and retrieve will restore an incorrect,
    arbitrary timestamp.
When query backup command is issued with -detail option, it will
also display incorrect info for the objects that were backed up
    with the incorrect date.
IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: All Client versions are
affected including HSM for AIX JFS2 except Windows, AIX GPFS,
    Linux GPFS
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    Enable trace using traceflag service.
    Initial Impact: Medium
Additional Keywords: mtime modified date backup file everytime

Local fix

  • - The affected files can be touched to set them to the current
date or any date in the valid date range.
    - Set each backup management class's copy group value VEREXISTS
to NOLIMIT or, at the least, to something no less than the
RETEXTRA value, assuming incremental backups run once a day.

Problem conclusion

  • IBM Spectrum Protect for Backup-Archive Client will stores
atime, mtime, ctime timestamps correctly if the timestamp is
outside the following range 'January 1, 1970 through February 7,
    2106'
