IT04321: INCORRECT PERMISSION ON /TMP SHALL RESULT IN TIVOLI STORAGE MANGER UPGRADE OR INSTALL FAILURE.

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If /tmp permission on UNIX platform was changed
    from default drwxrwxrwt (1777) the upgrade
    or install will fail.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    
    During Tivoli Storage Manager Version 6
    install or upgrade, the installation will go through
    with out any errors/failures.
    However,  Tivoli Storage Manger
    shall fail to start during very first post upgrade or install
    start up attempt.
    Following error shall be logged in db2diag.log:
         Path access permission
        Target file = /tmp/SQLDIR.LK0
    
    During Tivoli Storage Manager Version 7
    install or upgrade, the failure shall be observed
    during installation/upgrade phase right away.
    Below is an example of the errors observed
    when launching Installation Manager in Version 7
    if /tmp is not writable.

Local fix

  • Prior to install, check permission for /tmp.
    As root issue:
    #ls -ld /tmp
    and if necessary, correct:
    #chmod 1777 /tmp
