Error description

  • The description of DELETE VOLHIST command within Linux
Administrators Reference does not contain an important note
regarding the use of DELETE VOLHIST in connection with DRM. In
the Administrators References for all other platforms there is
the following "Note 5" which is missing in Linux Admin
    Reference:
    .
    5. For users of DRM, the database backup expiration should be
controlled with the SET DRMDBBACKUPEXPIREDAYS command instead of
this DELETE VOLHISTORY command. Using the DELETE VOLHISTORY
command removes Tivoli Storage Manager?s record of the volume.
This can cause volumes to be lost that were managed by the MOVE
DRMEDIA command. The recommended way to manage the automatic
expiration of DRM database backup volumes is by using the SET
    DRMDBBACKUPEXPIREDAYS command.

    TSM Versions Affected:
TSM Admin Reference for Linux 5.3 / 5.4

    Initial Impact: Low

    Additional Keywords:
DRM, Disaster Recovery Manager, del volhist, command syntax

Local fix

    VOLHIST command

Need to add the note to the Linux Admin Ref, which exists
in the Administrator's References for all other platforms.

Problem conclusion

  • The following note will be added to the DELETE VOLHISTORY
command in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Linux
    Administrator's Reference, SC32-0125-01:

    DELETE VOLHISTORY
    .
    .
    Note:
    .
    .
    5. For users of DRM, the database backup expiration
should be controlled with the SET DRMDBBACKUPEXPIREDAYS
command instead of this DELETE VOLHISTORY command. Using the
DELETE VOLHISTORY command removes Tivoli Storage Manager's
record of the volume. This can cause volumes to be lost that
were managed by the MOVE DRMEDIA command. The recommended way
to manage the automatic expiration of DRM database backup
volumes is by using the SET DRMDBBACKUPEXPIREDAYS command.
