Prerequisites and co-requisites
The IBM Explorer for z/OS Version 2.1.0 system requirements are listed on the IBM Explorer for z/OS System Requirements web page.
For users with CICS Explorer V5.1.1.x installed, the CICS Explorer V5.1.1.2 and IBM Explorer for z/OS V2.1.0.2 fixpacks must be applied simultaneously.
Installation information
Find further online install instructions within the technote, entitled "Ordering maintenance for the IBM Explorer for z/OS, IBM CICS Explorer and CICS Explorer plug-ins".
Prior to installation
It is recommended that you take a backup of the IBM Explorer for z/OS workspace before upgrading.
To find your workspace folder select "File -> Switch Workspace -> Other...". The pop up window will show you the location of the currently used workspace folder, for example "C:\Users\Admin\.zosexplorer".
To backup the IBM Explorer for z/OS Workspace, including the connection definitions, copy the workspace folder to another folder or compress it into an archive folder.
Installing
You must use IBM Installation Manager to install and update IBM Explorer for z/OS.
- Open the Installation Manager Preferences - Repositories page
- To update using the composite update site, you must ensure that the repository http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/htp/zos/2/1/0/ is available.
- To update using the Installation Manager Repository downloaded from FixCentral, you must ensure that the zip file is added as a repository.
- Click the Update option in the Installation Manager wizard, and follow the prompts to update IBM Explorer for z/OS and the CICS Explorer SDK if that is already installed.

Uninstalling if necessary
To revert back to the old version of the IBM Explorer for z/OS, this can be achieved by using the Rollback function in IBM Installation Manager.
Additional information
The IBM Explorer for z/OS help documentation is integrated with the product and includes instructions to configure a connection and use the z/OS features. To display the IBM Explorer for z/OS help, use one of the following methods:
- From the welcome screen, click the Tutorials icon. The icon names are displayed when you hover over them.
- From the main menu bar, click: Help > Help Contents > z/OS Explorer User Guide.
