Error description

  • OY14686 introduced code to suppress dumps taken for RC50 RSN20
errors from VVDS manager. This error describes a condition
where the catalog name cannot be found in the VVCR record within
the VVDS. In certain cases where the VVCR validly shows the
catalog name and the error is issued for a temporary condition,
a dump would be valuable for analysis. This apar is intended to
improve first failure data collection by unsuppressing the 50-20
    for dumps.

    205(050,020,IGG0CLHV)-132,CATALOG,ALLOCATE,SYS00001,,,
    IEF196I IEC251I cat.name,,cat.name

Also note that the error is actually issued out of IGG0CLE1 and
IGG0CLHV is used for the external interface.

Local fix

  • Investigate VVCR for catalog volume to determine if the 50-20 is
permanent or a temporary condition. If the name is there, issue
F CATALOG,RESTART to clear temporary issues.
F CATALOG,DUMPON(050,020,**) can be used to acquire a dump of
    the error.

    ****************************************************************
SUMMARY: Code was put in many years ago to suppress the taking
of a dump when a return and reason code of 50-020 occurs. This
applied to VSAM catalogs, which are no longer supported.
Additionally, the issuance of an IEC331I message that accuratly
indicates which catalog module generates the error was also
    suppressed in the same code.

Problem conclusion

  • The code that suppressed the dump and also suppressed the
message has been removed so that better first-failure data
    capture can occur.
