Error description

  • When a CAA cluster is first created after a new install
    of
AIX via mkcluster. Or if created via PowerHA SystemMirror
    smit panels.
Although mkcluster returns no error the 2nd node does
    not configure correctly:

No CAA subsystems are started, apart from clcomd which
    is started from /etc/inittab:

    # lssrc -g caa
    Subsystem Group PID Status
     clcomd caa 4587616 active
     cld caa inoperative
     clconfd caa inoperative

The solid and solidhac subsystems do not get created.

Because of this group services cannot start and therefore
start of PowerHA cluster services fails:

     ConnectToRsct: calling ha_gs_setup
     ConnectToRsct: ha_gs_init failed,rc=19
     SendRmInfoBcast: Called, state = ST_JOINING
clstrmgrES: Failed to initialize group services after 14
     tries (70 seconds), exiting.
die: clstrmgr on node 2 is exiting with code 0

However if after creating the cluster both nodes are
    rebooted all will configure correctly

    Effected AIX levels:

    7100-00-02
    7100-00-03

Local fix

  • After creating the CAA cluster reboot all nodes of the
    cluster.

Problem summary

  • After a fresh install, multi-node cluster creation will fail,
leaving the initiator in a single-node cluster. The initiator
will output an error indicating that the target node returned
    an invalid message.

Problem conclusion

  • Redirect stdout and stderr on any non-initiating node so no
output to stdout or stderr will get written to the pipe used
    for coordinated config.

Temporary fix

Comments

  • 6100-06 - use AIX APAR IV13497
    7100-00 - use AIX APAR IV08262
