Abstract
Deleting a volume in a data reduction pool while vdisk protection is enabled and when the vdisk was not explicitly unmapped before deletion, may result in multiple node warmstarts.

This scenario requires a very specific configuration, as well as a specific timing of events leading up to the "rmvdisk -force" until the completion of the background delete process.
Configuration factors
- Data reduction pools must be in use
- Vdisk protection must be enabled (disabled by default)
- Vdisk not specifically unmapped(eg. rmvdiskhostmap) before deletion.
- Vdisk deletion using the "-force" option ( eg. rmvdisk -force X)
Timing factors
- The vdisk being deleted must have a last access time old enough to permit the "rmvdisk -force" command to proceed
- The vdisk being deleted must have had its last_access_time updated by an attempted IO in the window between the "rmvdisk -force" and the completion of the background delete of the vdisk copy/copies.
Workaround
Due to the combination of factors, the probability of this scenario is low.
The following workarounds will prevent this scenario:
- Disable vdisk protection
- Vdisks in a data reduction pool should be unmapped from hosts before deleting them.
A fix will be contained in a future code release and is being tracked by APAR HU01873.
