APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The MQ listener process terminates. The executable runmqlsr
disappears from the list of running processes.

These messages show up in EMS:

MQ message: AMQ9219: The TCP/IP listener program could not
create a new connection for the incoming conversation.
EXPLANATION : An attempt was made to create a new socket
because an attach request was received, but an error occurred.
ACTION : The failure may be transitory, try again later.
If the problem persists, record the return code 4120 and tell
the systems administrator. It may be necessary to free some jobs
    or restart the communications system.

MQ message: AMQ5027: The listener 'LISTENER' has ended.
    ProcessId(4,2206 ¢X1TR 1442846886).
EXPLANATION : The listener process has ended. ACTION : None.

You may find following FDC on your system if the listener
termination has been caused by a port scanner:

Local fix

  • The customer needs to restart the listener.
The customer could check if he used a port scanner for security
tests. The port scanner could have caused the connection reset.

Problem summary

  • The connection reset condition (ECONNRESET error) is unhandled
    in the MQ listener code.
The listener runs the default handling which is error reporting
    (FDC, EMS) and termination.

Problem conclusion

  • An error handling (network socket recreate) has been implemented
for error condition ECONNRESET with listen() and accept().

The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs:

    Version Maintenance Level
    v8.1 8.1.0.11
The latest available maintenance can be obtained from
    'Recommended Fixes for IBM MQ'
    http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037
If the maintenance level is not yet available information on
its planned availability can be found in 'IBM MQ planned
    maintenance release dates'

Temporary fix

  • The only known root cause for this problem are port scanner
tests. The customer should be aware that listener processes
may terminate due to these tests.
