In just 12 weeks, the USTA and IBM teams conceived, developed and delivered a first-of-a-kind, AI-powered tennis experience to bring fans gameplay insights and an opportunity to debate some of tennis’ hottest topics, using Watson Discovery’s natural language processing and AI-powered search capabilities.

The US Open’s hybrid cloud platform with Red Hat OpenShift allowed the USTA digital team to accelerate development of new features and functionality for the US Open app and website, quickly move workloads to the cloud, and work from home without disruption.

The US Open’s digital platforms will see a significant spike in traffic this year. Watson for Cybersecurity will use sophisticated analytics and machine learning capabilities to help identify and address threats.

IBM iX, the world’s largest digital design agency, delivers the digital experience of the tournament through Official US Open platforms, including USOpen.org and the US Open app. IBM iX used the virtual IBM Garage Method to collaborate closely with the USTA this year, even while working remotely.
