Downloading orders

Most Shopz orders can be delivered over the Internet, however this delivery method has some prerequisites.

When your order is ready to be downloaded you will receive an e-mail notification with a link that will take you to the download page for your order. You can also download your orders from the Processing section of the My orders page; just click on the Download link for the order you want to download. Once you get to the download page for your order, simply click on the links to view or download the various components of your order.

Note: Additional information about downloading software, including download performance, is available at

Internet order retention

Internet orders are retained and downloadable for up to 30 days for product and driving system orders and 14 days for service orders.

Downloading z/OS orders directly to a z/OS system

For ServerPac orders which are installed using z/OSMF Software Management, you will use the Portable Software Instance Add -> From Download Server action which will invoke the SMP/E GIMGTPKG service routine to download your order from the IBM download server to the download file system on your z/OS system. The Add action wizard will prompt you for the SERVER XML information found on the Shopz download page and allows you to choose either FTPS or HTTPS download method in the CLIENT XML you provide.

z/OSMF ServerPac portable software instance order packages are now signed by IBM and it is optional to verify the digital signature when using the Add action. For further details, see Chapter 6 "Preparing to verify signatures for GIMZIP packages" in z/OS SMP/E Users Guide.

For CBPDO orders, you may use either the provided customized JCL job RFNJOBS for FTPS or RFNJOBH for HTTPS to download your order. These jobs invoke the SMP/E RECEIVE FROMNETWORK command to download your order from the IBM download server to your SMPNTS file system, and then perform the SMP/E RECEIVE for the order.

CBPDO order packages are now signed by IBM and it is optional to verify the digital signature which can be done by updating the RFNJOBH or RFNJOBS Job JCL. For further details, see Chapter 6 "Preparing to verify signatures for GIMZIP packages" in z/OS SMP/E Users Guide.

For service orders, you may use either the provided customized JCL job RFNJOBS for FTPS or RFNJOBH for HTTPS to download your order. These jobs invoke the SMP/E RECEIVE FROMNETWORK command to download your order from the IBM download server to your SMPNTS file system, and then perform the SMP/E RECEIVE for the order.

For driving system orders, you will use the 'Load from Removable Media or Server' task on your IBM System z HMC to load the DFSMSdss Stand Alone Restore program. Select the 'FTP Server' option in this task and enter the download information found on the download page for your order. You must select FTPS for the protocol. When the load operation is complete, you will restore the driving system volumes to your DASD, accessing the volume dump archives on the IBM Software Download Server through the same server connection that was established during the load operation.

Downloading orders to your workstation

IBM Download Director with encryption is the recommended method to download orders to your workstation. When you click on the IBM Download Director link on the download page, the IBM Download Director Java applet or a Java Web Start application, depending on the capabilities of your browser, will be started, allow you to specify a destination directory, and perform the download of your order to the specified directory.

See the Internet delivery installation checklist document for your order type in the Additional Resources section or on your order download page for specific directory structure requirements. For z/VM and z/VSE product and service orders, you can alternatively use HTTPS through the browser. Once you have downloaded your order, you will need to upload the order, or make it accessible, to your host system.

Uploading z/OS product and service orders from your workstation to your host

There are several ways to upload your CBPDO and ServerPac orders from your workstation to your host's download file system defined as your SMPNTS; however, all orders must be uploaded in binary mode.

For z/OS product orders, see z/OS Planning for Installation and the Internet delivery installation checklist document for your order type in the Additional Resources section or on your order download page.

For z/OS service orders, see the Install Instructions document for your order type on your order download page.

Uploading z/VM orders from your workstation to your host

There are several ways to upload your z/VM order from your workstation to your host. One way is to use FTP with your workstation configured as an FTP client and your host configured as an FTP server. This option requires TCP/IP FTP to be active on your host and for the workstation to have an IP connection to your host. The package is uploaded to the host using the FTP PUT command. Please refer to the z/VM Installation Instructions provided with your specific order.

Accessing Driving system orders on your workstation from your IBM System z HMC

Use one of the following methods to make driving system orders on your workstation accessible to your HMC:

  • Configure the workstation as a FTP server. Specify this server on the 'FTP Server' option in the 'Load from Removable Media or Server' task on your HMC, selecting the appropriate protocol for connecting to this server.
  • Copy the downloaded files from your workstation to a USB flash drive. Select the 'Hardware Management Console Removable Media' option in the 'Load from Removable Media or Server' task on your HMC to access the data in the USB port.
