Session Title:

Why Your AI Needs IA - Artificial Intelligence Needs an Infrastructure Agenda

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all the rage, and just like the Big Data Hadoop craze, every company is running fast to try and be a part of this revolution. On its own, AI faces a steep Time to Value curve. Do you have the right data, is it cataloged correctly, do you have the right skills, and can everyone participate? Typically, AI is in the hands of the privileged few and companies struggle to democratize it for the many, which would spread its value across the organization. But there is one often overlooked component of a strong AI strategy. More so, this component has the effect of flattening out the Time to Value curve for AI. What is this component? Infrastructure. In a world of algorithms, chat bots, neural networks, and more …infrastructure matters like it has never mattered before. In this session, you’ll learn how to climb the AI ladder. You'll find that it's just like climbing a ladder at home -- when someone holds the base (infrastructure), you can climb the ladder rungs faster, climb higher, and climb with more confidence.

Paul Zikopoulos is the VP of Cognitive BigData Systems at IBM. He’s an award winning writer and speaker who has been consulted on the topic of BigData by the popular TV show “60 Minutes,” advises various universities on their graduate analytics programs, and named to over a dozen “Experts to Follow” lists in social media. You’ll also find Paul taking a very active role around Women in Technology (including a seated board member for Women 2.0 - a global brand for women in tech and entrepreneurship that works to close the gender gaps of tech companies). Paul has written 19 books and over 360 articles on data. He doesn’t think NoSQL is something you put on a resume if you don’t have SQL skills and he knows JSON isn’t a person in his department. Ultimately, Paul is trying to figure out the world according to Chloë—his daughter, whom he notes didn’t come with a handbook and is more complex than the topic of BigData itself, but more fun too.

Steve Sibley has 29 years of experience in the IT systems business and has held a wide variety of roles with IBM. Since 2006 Steve has been a leader in the Worldwide Power Systems offering management team and in 2011 was named Director, Power Systems Offering Management. Over that time IBM Power Systems has gained 18 points of UNIX revenue share and helped clients transform their business into more efficient and effective IT businesses. In 2014, Steve was named Vice President and Business Line Executive, IBM Power Systems and System Software as IBM addresses strategic shifts in the systems market toward the Cloud, Analytics and Big Data solutions.

Steve started with IBM in 1988 as a development engineer on the AS/400 and has held positions in business development, development operations, technical strategy and planning, and Brand and Grouplevel strategy. In 1998, Steve became the Program Director for UNIX Partners in Development leading the team responsible for building strategic relationships with independent software vendors and followed that with roles as the System and Technology Group manager of ISV strategy and marketing programs and manager of Worldwide Channel Enablement. He has also held leadership positions in various industry standards groups including American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and was president of the Fibre Channel Industry Association in its start up phase.

Get certified!

Systems hardware and software certification exams will be offered at the special event rate of USD 100 per exam, up to a 50% discount over the testing center price. A complete listing of available IBM tests will be available at the testing lab.

Certification tests will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tests will be payable on site at the time of testing, using Visa, Master Card or American Express, which the test taker enters directly into the testing tool.

Some vouchers may be accepted as payment for exams (for example, PGI/Specialty test vouchers, and IBM employee vouchers), but vouchers are not guaranteed to be accepted.

Potential test takers should prepare for their test(s) prior to the conference.

There you'll find test descriptions, including:

  • Certification job role names and descriptions to which the tests apply.
  • Test objectives measured on the tests.
  • Recommended educational resources.
  • Assessment and sample tests to help gauge your readiness for the actual exam.
  • Estimated time required to take the test.

Important notes on certification testing:

  • The same test may be taken by an individual only twice in a 30-day period. Both attempts may be taken at this event.
  • For each test, test takers are required to sign a confidentiality agreement, show their conference badge and one government issued ID with a recent photo (for example: passport, national ID, or driver license).
  • All tests are closed-book containing multiple-choice questions. They are delivered in a proctored environment via a web-based tool.
  • Candidates should ensure they have a valid web account with Pearson Vue. While a testing ID is important, it is not needed to log in to take the exam. Candidates will need the user name and password for their Pearson Vue web account to log in to take their exam.
  • Candidates can register for new accounts, test, and update existing credentials on the Pearson Vue website.
