z/OS for Rookies track - We built it for you!

Organizations that depend on mainframes are experiencing a mainframe skills gap due to retiring baby-boomers. In parallel, the scale, complexity, and change in the mainframe environment continue to accelerate. Performance and capacity teams are a mission-critical function, and this performance skills gap represents a great risk to ongoing operations.

Take action today to bridge your skills gap. Send your early career IBM Z programmers and engineers to the z/OS for Rookies track. This full week of sessions will enable your newer team members to get started and go deep on IBM Z with hands on training delivered by IBM Technical Training Instructors. But that’s not all.

IBM is partnering with Interskill to offer 53 of their Z mainframe e-learning courses at no cost to attendees of the z/OS for Rookies track. The Interskill courses will be offered prior to the event, on registration, and will be available for three months after the event.

Keynote speakers:

  • Andreas Kind, Manager of Industry Platforms and Blockchain, IBM Research, Blockchain is the Future.
  • Mark Wilson, Technical Director, RSM Partners, Dark Data, The Dark Web and Mainframes…What are you talking about

Session Title:

Next Generation Blockchain Systems for Business

Blockchain has the potential to bring trust into business transactions. This requires addressing strict requirements for confidentiality, privacy as well as performance. The talk will address how a next generation of blockchain systems are able to address these requirements with advanced cryptographic and trust techniques. We will define what is understood as a Blockchain for Business and highlight use cases with advanced demand for security and privacy.

Andreas Kind leads Industry Solutions and Blockchain at IBM Research - Zurich. His team is key contributor to the Hyperledger Blockchain Project and develops advanced privacy and cloud security technologies. Andreas received a PhD in computer science from the University of Bath, UK and joined IBM in 2000 as a Research Staff Member. He spent six years in China as director of the Shanghai Lab of IBM Research - China and coordinator of the research agenda on Financial Services and Security across emerging market regions. Andreas co-led IBM's 2015 Global Technology Outlook on Payment Disruption and Blockchain. His current research focus is on innovation in Distributed Ledger Technologies, Cognitive Finance and FinTech. In his previous positions at IBM, he led Systems Management Research in the Computer Science Department of the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory as well as the Systems Research Department at IBM Research - China in Beijing. Andreas is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology.

Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson
Technical Director,

Session Title:

Dark Data, The Dark Web and Mainframes…What are you talking about?

Mark will discuss the threats to mainframe users from the dark web. Where do you think your data could end up if it was stolen, the dark web perhaps? How much is a single credit card worth on the dark web? What about your data, do you know where all your sensitive data is? How about the data that the dev or support team copied for some testing and didn’t obfuscate, shall we call that “Dark Data”… Dark Data: The multitude of copies of Production data that we have completely forgotten about! How much of our Production data is actually residing in the non-production datasets for testing? How much “Dark Data” do we have…… What about when these datasets are backed up or even archived…. Mark will explain the risks involved and also describe a solution for a data centric security world.

Leading the world's largest mainframe infrastructure team, Mark draws on more than 35 years' experience in diverse client and business partner environments. Mark’s deep insight and solutions-driven approach is highly valued by RSM clients, IBM and third-party partners alike. Widely regarded for his mainframe security specialism, Mark also leads the RSM Security Practice.
