Frequently asked questions

What kind of support do I get with my account?

Basic support is included with your account. It is provided for nonproduction environments or workloads where traditional severities aren't used and specific response times aren't stipulated. You can order Advanced or Premium support plans to get extra help with your production workloads. Learn more in Basic, Advanced and Premium Support plans.

How do I set up spending notifications?

Any account owners and any user on the account with the editor role or higher on the billing service can set spending notifications. You can enable spending notifications for total account, Cloud Foundry runtime, container and service spending or add spending for individual services, including third-party services.

You receive notifications when you reach 80%, 90% and 100% of the spending thresholds that you specify. As your needs change, you can edit the spending threshold. If you're interested, you can use our latest enhancement to select up to 10 users from your account to receive notifications about the service.

Free tier accounts can't enable spending notifications because they can use only no-cost free tier services, so you never have any spending. After you upgrade to a Pay-As-You-Go or Subscription account, you can set spending thresholds. For more information, see Account types.

To set up your notifications:

  1. In the IBM Cloud console, go to Manage > Billing and usage, then select Spending notifications.
  2. Set the Enable option to "on" for the specific service area to enable email notifications.
  3. Click the Edit option from the Actions menu.
  4. Add desired email recipients. You can select up to 10 users from your account to receive email notifications about a service.
  5. Enter the dollar amount to set a spending threshold.
  6. Click Save to save your changes.

You can also set spending notifications for individual services:

  1. From the console, go to Manage > Billing and usage, then select Spending notifications.
  2. From the Add a service section, click Create.
  3. Enter the service name or search from the list to add the service.
  4. Add desired email recipients. Select up to 10 users from your account to receive email notifications about a service.
  5. Enter the dollar amount to set a spending threshold.
  6. Click Save to save your changes.
  7. After the spending notification is added for the service, set the Enable option to "on" for the specific service area to enable email notifications.

Please note: Notifications don't include costs for classic infrastructure services.

How do I apply promotional codes?

Perform the following steps in the console to apply promo codes to your account and services.

  1. Go to Manage > Billing and usage, then select Promotions.
  2. Enter your promo code, then click Apply.
  3. Review the promotion details, then click Apply. After the promo code is applied, a success message is displayed.

Where is my USD 200 credit?

To receive the USD 200 credit, you first need to upgrade to a Pay-as-You-Go account. If you've already done so, go to the usage page in the IBM Cloud console to see the USD 200 credit. You can also go to the account settings page to view your active promotions. Your promotional credit of USD 200 is automatically applied, but might take a few hours to appear in your account. The credit is available for first-time Pay-As-You-Go accounts only and cannot be used with third-party offerings.
