Now available in IBM Cloud, IBM® Spectrum Virtualize™ is the leading software-defined storage solution that has been proven for years in IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC), the IBM Storwize® family of storage solutions, IBM FlashSystem® V9000 and VersaStack™ converged infrastructure—with more than 150,000 systems running IBM Spectrum Virtualize and managing more than 7.2 exabytes of data.
Hybrid cloud migration and disaster recover
Using sophisticated replication technology, IBM Spectrum Virtualize enables migration of data at your pace between on-premises storage and IBM Cloud. The same technology also supports continuous replication from on-premises storage to IBM Cloud or between IBM Cloud data centers, for disaster recovery purposes.
Hybrid cloud capability for storage you already own
IBM Spectrum Virtualize for Public Cloud works with on-premises systems built with IBM Spectrum Virtualize software: IBM SAN Volume Controller, IBM Storwize family, IBM FlashSystem V9000, and VersaStack. And because these systems can also connect to over 400 storage systems from IBM and other vendors, you can deploy hybrid cloud capability without changing the storage you have.
Paired with IBM Spectrum Virtualize in storage systems, manage storage in IBM Cloud in the same manner, and using the same user interface, as you do on premises, dramatically simplifying the task of implementing a hybrid cloud storage strategy.
Enhance public cloud storage with the rich functionality you're accustomed to on premises. Including nondisruptive data movement, IBM FlashCopy®️ snapshots, and IBM Easy Tier®️ automated tiering.
Automated installation scripts assist in deployment of IBM Spectrum Virtualize for Public Cloud from any Intel based workstation or laptop. Automated configuration integrates IBM Spectrum Virtualize into the IBM Cloud infrastructure, including set up of clusters through private VLAN networks and the automated attachment of provisioned IBM Cloud block storage.
IBM Spectrum Virtualize for Public Cloud supports applications running "bare metal" and server virtualization with technologies such as PowerVM, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Kubernetes and Docker. Plug-ins to support Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and VMware vCenter help enable consolidated management in these environments. In addition, support for VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager helps speed disaster recovery.
The operating system ordered on the IBM Cloud bare metal servers must be one of "Redhat 7.1 (64 bit) - version locked" or "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x (64 bit)". The version locked Redhat 7.1 is preferable if available.
IBM Spectrum Virtualize for Public Cloud requires servers, storage and networking provisioned within the IBM Cloud infrastructure. Choose from 25 IBM Cloud data centers world-wide.
- Two or four IBM Cloud Dual Processor Bare Metal Servers
- 2.4GHz, Intel Xeon E5-2620, 12 Core, 64 GB RAM or higher recommended
- Two disk drives per server; size of /dev/sdb must be at least 150GB
- "10 Gbps Dual Public & Dual Private Network Uplinks (Unbonded)" network card on each server
- Endurance or Performance storage tier capacity as needed
