What the IBM TS4500 tape library can do for your business
IBM® TS4500 Tape Library is a next-generation storage solution designed to help midsized and large enterprises respond to cloud storage challenges. These challenges include high data volume growth in cloud and hybrid cloud infrastructures, increasing cost of storage footprints, the difficulty of migrating data across vendor platforms, and the increased complexity of IT training and management as staff resources shrink.
Benefits
Enable flexible growth
Leverage flexibility that enables the library to grow from both the right and the left side of the first L frame since models can be placed in any active position.
Support capacity on demand
Utilize support for entry-level, intermediate and base-capacity configurations.
Utilize dynamic storage management
Use the Advanced Library Management System to support dynamic storage management, enabling users to create and change logical libraries and configure any drive into any logical library.
Increase overall system availability
Help increase mount performance and overall system availability with dual robotic accessors.
Gain file-level access to data
Access data at the file-level without the need for proprietary applications. IBM TS4500 supports IBM Spectrum Archive with IBM Linear Tape File System (LTFS) technology.
Upgrade with a flexible path
Provide a flexible upgrade path for users who want to expand their tape storage as their needs grow.
Key features of the IBM TS4500 Tape Library
Scalability and speed in a small footprint
Store up to 1.05 EB compressed data per 18-frame library and up to 39 PB compressed in 10-sq-ft library with 3592 cartridges.
Maximize storage density with LTO 9 technology
Store up to 1.04 EB compressed data per 18-frame library and up to 39 PB compressed in 10-sq-ft library with LTO Ultrium 9 tape cartridges.
Policy-based automatic media verification
Proactively monitor archived data with policy-based automatic media verification.
Data encryption and WORM media
Strengthen security and regulatory compliance with data encryption and write-once-read-many (WORM) media.
Support for multiple tape drive combinations
Support any combination of Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium 8, 7, 6, and 5, and IBM TS1160, TS1155, TS1150, and TS1140 tape drives.
IBM Spectrum Archive support
Simplify user access to data stored on tape cartridges via IBM Spectrum Archive™ featuring IBM Linear Tape File System™ technology.
Compatibility with the latest IBM LTO® Ultrium® technology
This tape library supports the latest generation of Linear Tape-Open® (LTO) technology, offering up to 4530 TB of data storage per cartridge (182 TB native), twice 50% more capacity the than compressed capacity of the previous version. Also, an initialization feature will allow you to use new LTO generation 8 cartridges.
Optional 5U or 10U of rack space available above the library
The optional 5U or 10U top racks reduce the storage footprint and simplify cabling by providing extra rack space above the library for power distribution units, Fibre Channel switches, tape data movers, or IBM® Linear Tape File System (LTFS) nodes.
Supports most open-system servers including IBM Z®
Helps to simplify the storage environment and enable flexibility for growth and change in your data center.
Testimonials
“ We currently have 1.2 PB of data on tape, and 2.5 PB on disk. Despite retaining more data, our cost per TB is excellent, and we are now meeting our storage needs in far more cost-effective way. ”
