The Pathfinder Mentoring Program has grown to over 200 mentor-student pairs in the 15-year history of the initiative.

“IBMers are driven by a passion to help the next generation,” says Linda Brown, a manager for IBM, and the team lead for a group of IBM volunteers in the United States who recently received the IBM Volunteer Excellence Award.

In a video , members of the award-winning team talk about the Pathfinder Mentoring Program, which offers personalized guidance and career advice for students at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh.

The Pathfinder Mentoring Program pairs IBM engineers, designers and business professionals with NC State University students in the same discipline. In one-on-one meetings, students and mentors come together to discuss career considerations. Group events use IBM as an example to expose students to a broad range of career possibilities.

Started in 2004, the program has grown to over 200 mentor-student pairs. It is one of many relationships IBM has with NC State University, including joint research, adjunct professors, senior engineering projects, a design class, and a new IBM Q-lab.

IBM Chairman and CEO Ginni Rometty recognized the IBM volunteers with a 2018 IBM Volunteer Excellence Award.
