Audience:

  • Ages 11-14 (Middle grade students)

What’s the goal of this kit?

  • Students will learn about Artificial Intelligence and its impact on their future.
  • Students will learn about Watson and its participation in Jeopardy as context for understanding its capabilities and how it works. They will also experience a drawing app that uses cognitive capabilities.

Why is this topic important?

  • Working in teams toward solving problems, sharing experiences and ideas on AI and how it’s part of many current and future applications will help students understand technology.
  • Understanding AI will improve students’ understanding of technology that is increasingly being used and impacting their lives and communities.

What do I need to know about this activity?

  • You can share examples of news items related to AI, Watson and technology based on what you know from the news and technology.
  • No direct experience with AI or Watson needed, although it will help to have a basic understanding of what AI can do
  • Experience running a workshop or leading student discussions would be helpful.
