Ralph Pfeiffer served as an IBM senior vice president, and chairman and chief executive officer of the IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation
The following is the text of an IBM biography published in February 1986.
Ralph A. Pfeiffer, Jr., senior vice president of the IBM Corporation, is chairman and chief executive officer of the IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation, and chairman and chief executive officer of the IBM World Trade Corporation.
Mr. Pfeiffer joined IBM in 1949 as a sales representative in Cleveland, Ohio. He held various sales executive positions, including IBM director of marketing, and in 1970 was named president of the Data Processing Division and elected an IBM vice president. He held that position until April 1974 when he was elected an IBM senior vice president and became chairman and chief executive officer of the IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation. In March 1983 he was named a member of the Corporate Management Board. In September 1984 he was appointed chairman and chief executive officer of the IBM World Trade Corporation.
He is chairman of the Independent College Funds of America; vice chairman of the Advisory Board, Center for Strategic and International Studies; and a governor of the Foreign Policy Association. He is a member of the executive boards of the U.S.-ASEAN Center for Technology Exchange, the Asia Society, and the U.S. Council for International Business. He is a trustee of Manhattanville College.
In addition, Mr. Pfeiffer is a director of the Royal Bank of Canada and of the SmithKline Beckman Corporation. He holds directorships in the International Rescue Committee and the Americas Society and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Economic Club of New York and the advisory council, J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. A graduate of John Carroll University, Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Pfeiffer also attended Cleveland-Marshall Law School.
