Dave McKinney was president of the IBM World Trade
Americas/Far East Corporation and chairman of the board
of the IBM World Trade Europe/Middle East/Africa Corporation
in the 1980s. He retired on July 31, 1992 after a 36-year
career.
The following is the text of a corporate biography published in December 1991.
Mr. McKinney, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, joined IBM in 1956 as a sales representative. He held a number of sales positions, including Data Processing branch manager, New Orleans, and in 1971 was appointed executive assistant to the chairman of the board.
From 1973 until 1979 when he was elected IBM vice president, personnel, Mr. McKinney held a number of executive positions, including president of the Information Records Division.
In 1980 Mr. McKinney was appointed IBM vice president and assistant group executive, operations, for the General Business Group. He was named president, IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation in December 1982 and elected a member of the board of directors of IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation. He was named vice president of communications in May 1986 and was elected senior vice president in July 1987. In August 1987 Mr. McKinney became head of the corporate operations staffs and a member of IBM's Management Committee and Corporate Management Board. In November 1988 Mr. McKinney was appointed president and chief executive officer of the IBM World Trade Europe/Middle East/Africa Corporation and president directeur general, IBM Europe. In June 1989 he was elected chairman of the board of IBM World Trade Europe/Middle East/Africa Corporation. He was named to a special assignment at Corporate Headquarters, reporting to IBM Chairman John F. Akers in July 1991 and remains a member of the Corporate Management Board. He is responsible for several corporate staff functions.
Mr. McKinney serves on the board of trustees, Brown University, Providence, R.I., and on the board of trustees of the American University of Paris. He is a director of the General Re Corporation, International Executive Services Corps and Organization Resources Counselors.
