Richard Hughes

SVP and COO of Human Capital, UnitedHealth Group

As Senior Vice President and Head of Strategy, Rich Hughes has enterprise accountability for global human capital strategy, research, analytics and technology.

UnitedHealth Group is the country’s largest diversified healthcare services company, and is dedicated to making the health care system work better for the more than 100 million people it serves in the US and abroad. Mr. Hughes and the human capital team support UnitedHealth Group’s mission by ensuring the effective management of the company’s most vital asset—its more than 260,000 employees and leaders.

Mr. Hughes joined UnitedHealth Group in 2003 serving as vice president of Human Capital within the company’s Optum division. He also served as United’s Chief Learning Officer and most recently its Chief Operating Officer, Global Human Capital.

Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, Mr. Hughes served as vice president of human resources for eBenX, Inc. In addition, he has held various human resource leadership position
